The Road to Bonnaroo, Day 4, Part 3 (final) = Spearfish and Deadwood, SD

A quick blog post to wrap up Day 4 of our road trip to Tennessee = we left Devils Tower, WY, and headed to South Dakota.  Mount Rushmore and more would wait for the morning, but we had a couple of destinations in mind before retiring for the evening.  Here's what we did.

Welcome to South Dakota

Another 80 mph state!

Much more dramatic scenery than eastern Wyoming.

Our windshield was a veritable bug cemetery.

First stop in South Dakota = Crow Peak Brewery, in Spearfish.

The 11th Hour IPA was good, but I really, really liked their cream ale.

We drove the short distance to Deadwood, SD.

Deadwood looks great at twilight.

Very interesting history...

Fortunately we found a casino (yeah, Deadwood has casinos!) that was still serving food.  This was the biggest slab of ribs I've ever seen = notice Rob's hand for scale.  People were coming over to ask us about it - to feed their family of 6!  Needless to say, we didn't finish it.

Rob had to try his hand with Lady Luck (he made about a buck, yuck yuck).  We actually got $10 credit with our meal, so not too shabby.

These gnomes were ready for Sturgis later in the summer.

Coming up next = Mount Rushmore and Wind Cave National Park.
