St. Kitts, Day 1

My wife and I recently got back from five days in the Caribbean, specifically St. Kitts and Nevis, the smallest independent nation in the Western Hemisphere (in both area and population).  We loved just about every second we were on the islands - here are the photos from our first day.

I always love walking on the tarmac when possible - and that's the only way in St. Kitts.

Mr. X's Shiggidy Shack, South Frigate Bay, on the Caribbean side.

Our hotel room at Timothy Beach Resort, the only serious hotel on the Caribbean side.

The hotel pool, seen from our room's patio area.

Our room was on the bottom of this unit.

Our room in the background.

Not even 50 yards from our hotel (South Frigate Bay).

My wife's first steps in the Caribbean.

Looking back at our hotel, Timothy Beach Resort.

Time for beverages... plural.

The Dock was the bar associated with our hotel, but open to everyone.  Don't let the plastic cup fool you - this was the best pina colada on the island.

Belmont Estate coconut rum... neat.

One of two cruise ships leaving that evening.

Friday night means one thing on St. Kitts... Lobster Fest at Reggae Beach Bar, in the southeastern peninsula.

Amazing first courses before the lobster - plantains, veggies, rice and beans, salad, and pumpkin cakes (?).  The veggies and rice and beans were amazing.

For $35 USD, you got all you could eat of the first courses, and then 2 of 5 meat options.  I chose lobster (duh) and ribs.  The lobster was incredible, but the real shocker were the ribs.  These might have been the best ribs I've ever had in my life - fall off the bone, glazed to perfection.  Holy mackerel, were we loving St. Kitts so far.

Reggae Beach Bar's motto - which became our mantra during the week.

Coming up next - a train ride in the Caribbean.  Stay tuned.
