Istanbul, 2007 (Day 2)

Day 2 in Istanbul was absurdly busy... but rewarding.  Here are the photos:

View from the rooftop of my hostel in Sultanahmet.

I feel embarrassed that I paid a couple of dollars for this photo, but whatever.

Heading up the Bosphorus (a boat ride would be in my future, but not today).

After a taxi ride, I ended up at the Chora Church, which is perhaps the foremost example of a Byzantine church left in Istanbul.

Unsure which mosque this is (may be Suleymaniye Mosque)

A Sufi Muslim (aka Whirling Dervish) in front of Hagia Eirene, Topkapi Palace complex.

Sadly, the Sufi order itself is banned in Turkey, although they have been permitted to perform dances due to the tourist demand.

Day 3 coming up.  Stay tuned.
