Two from Milan, two from Gooch, and one from Clowe to seal the deal = Sharks beat Avs 5-3

For the first time in a while, the San Jose Sharks were outshot and failed to gain the edge in faceoff wins - and still managed to pull off the victory on the road, 5-3 against the Colorado Avalanche.

Three Sharks players scored the 5 goals = Milan Michalek and Devin Setoguchi each had two (Milan now at 3, Gooch now at 7), and Ryane Clowe nailed the lid in Colorado's coffin with his 5th of the season late in the third period. Jordan Leopold, Milan Hejduk, and John-Michael Liles each scored for the Avs.

Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau each had 2 assists, while Joe Pavelski, Brad Lukowich, Christian Ehrhoff, Rob Blake, Jonathan Cheechoo and Mike Grier each had 1 assist. Good to see at least a point from Cheech.. Oh, and Christian Ehrhoff's assist was his 100th career point (all with San Jose).

The Sharks were outshot 29 to 36 (7 to 18 in the 3rd), and won less faceoffs (25 to 28). Fortunately tonight, Evgeni Nabokov was the better goalie, as Peter Budaj made 24 saves to Nabby's 33.

Devin Setoguchi had seven shots on goal tonight, more than any other player from either team. "Captain Canada" Ryan Smyth had 6, while Milan Michalek had 5.

All San Jose players had a plus-rating with the exception of Jamie McGinn, Jody Shelley, and Douglas Murray, who all had a minus-1 for the night (the first two also had less than 5 minutes of ice time).

The Sharks have now won 4 straight, while the Avs have lost 3 in a row. The Sharks join the New York Rangers as the only teams to have 20 or more points thus far in the season. Worth noting, however, is that the Sharks are just one point behind with 2 games in hand over the Blueshirts... that would figure more into our team's equation if they were in the same conference, but I'm just saying...

The Sharks return home to face another Northwest Division team, the Minnesota Wild, on Tuesday. Nothing like a little Election Day hockey.
