Former Sharks defenseman Craig Rivet named captain of Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres (my second favorite hockey team - a distant second, mind you) have named former Sharks (and Canadiens) defenseman Craig Rivet as their permanent captain. Jason Pominville, Jochen Hecht, Jaroslav Spacek, and Teppo Numminen will all be alternate captains.

This makes the second Sharks-export in recent years to immediately be named captain upon joining his new team. Before Rivet, Bill Guerin (who wasn't a Shark very long - just part of the 2006-07 season) became the captain of his post-Sharks team, the New York Islanders.

Fun fact - Craig's real first name is Anthony (according to Wikipedia) - not surprisingly, Bill Guerin's first name is "William."

Best wishes to Rivs - except when you're playing your old team on February 13 (if only I could be there... school Valentine's Day party requires me to be at work! The life of a teacher...).
